SATEL LP

The new SATEL-LP product family provides a reliable and easy-to-implement solution for the radio transfer of physical, digital or analog inputs/outputs.

The SATEL-LP product consists of a radio module and one or more digital and analog I/O extension modules. The radio module is available in two free frequency bands : 869MHz and 2.4GHz.

SATEL-LP is particularly suitable for applications processing and exchanging physical input and output data. It is possible to easily create point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or mesh networks of up to 250 nodes.

The integrated Modbus slave protocol is used to manage data from a central control / command station.

Its main characteristics are :

  • Radio frequency : from 869,4 to 869,65 MHz or  2.4GHz ((license free))
  • 128-bit AES encryption
  • Configurable radio rate: 1200 to 120000 bits / s
  • Max transmission power: 500 mW
  • Power supply : +19.2…+30.5 Vdc
  • Up to 32 I/O extension modules connected via T-Bus (hot-swappable)
  • Support of applications exchanging I/O or serial data (RS-232 and RS-485 interfaces)
  • DIN rail mounting

The LP radio module can be configured without software, by means of scroll wheels on the front panel. Complex configurations can be quickly implemented using the LP-CONF software or by transfer from a USB stick.

Operating modes

1 – Transparent mode

In “transparent” mode, several controllers or input/output devices are interconnected on the same radio network.

The input/output modules are associated by simple addressing. It is thus possible to perform the copy of an output module to one or more input modules.

The distribution of information is therefore centralized or distributed according to needs.

2 – PLC/ModBus mode

In “PLC/ModBus” mode, a master PLC is connected via a serial link with a so-called master radio module.

The other radio modules are ModBus slaves with their own addressing.

In this configuration, all of the read/write exchanges of the inputs/outputs are managed by the master equipment.

Examples of architecture

1 – Point-to-point link

This mode of operation typically responds to the need to replace a cable over a long distance or in a harsh environment. The inputs and outputs are copied on both sides of the link.

2 – Star topology

This mode of operation typically responds to architectures with a well positioned high point providing a good quality connection to all other stations or to centralized remote monitoring or control applications.

3 – Mesh topology

This operating mode provides a radio path redundancy function. This solution is particularly suitable for data exchange in transparent mode.
